What is our role now
A disclaimer. I am typing on a typewriter in Mexico City and although the keyboard looks like my keyboard in San Francisco, it does not produce the punction marks I want. So if this looks more like a text message than an correctly punctuated email, my apologies.
Yesterday IABC signed a partnership agreement with AMCO, a professional association of Mexican communicators. I had the opportunity to give a presentation. In the question and answer session, one of the audience members asked me
what is the role of communicators in the current financial crisis that is sweeping the world AND
how can we demonstrate our value and not lose our jobs
These are excellent questions, even without the question marks. I hope some of you have thoughts you would like to share.

Julie,
This is the time when communicators everywhere can thank their lucky starts — and IABC — for the financial education they’ve received to date through local, regional and international sessions on financial communication.
Admittedly the current situation is far beyond anything we’ve experienced. However, our members are in a better position to become educated about the financial crisis and how it affects their employees and other audiences.
If IABC can quickly pull together a teleseminar on this topic, I’m sure it would benefit thousands of members.
Best,
Wilma

Wilma–
We are doing a web seminar in December and working on a teleseminar in November. You will also see some content in CW and CW Bulletin related to the skills communicators need now.
