A thought - I'm in San Antonio, and my company has workspace we are not using. Any IABC member in San Antonio who needs workspace is more than welcome to come on in and use a desk. I wonder how many more places like this exist in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, etc.?

BTW, that's an offer for any IABCer in San Antonio - free office space. We're a full service agency so pretty much have most the the basics at our disposal. (But BYO computer.)

Excellent resolution, Warren. As you said, it seems as if those who posted non-communication jobs on the IABC blog did so with the best intentions.

Here's the deal. After we set up the "free posting for Katrina victims" option and it was mentioned here on the blog, some folks found it - probably by doing a general web search for such a service - and, with the best of intentions, posted non-communication jobs. (Some also skipped the instructions and posted their openings as blog comments).

The issue has been resolved. The service provider IABC uses for the Job Center (Job Target) has now set up a general job board, open to everyone, to help Katrina Victims. We have removed the non-communication jobs from our job board and forwarded them to the Job Target site at http://www.katrinajobrelief.com. When we receive non-communication-type job postings, we will forward them to the Job Target site and let the posters know.

People are still more than welcome to take advantage of the IABC offer or they can post on both.

Brian, who cares whether an IABC staffer was involved? The point is there are people out there willing to help and this blog is providing yet another way to get the word out. Since it is a public blog, it will appear in search engines when key words like "hurricane relief" and "job offers" are used.

Instead of grinding your axe, how about easing up for a while? The IABC Cafe' blog is doing what it was intended to do -- create a sense of community among our members around the world and provide a forum for discussion on communication topics. It's more than we had a year ago at this time.

But this is just the opinion of someone who is "not the chairman, and he is not the paid executive director, and he is not the decision maker." Just an IABC member who's glad to see his association making some progress.

Now there's a job for the boss of a maid crew, and an optician, and a nanny.

I thought this was supposed to be an IABC initiative to help its New Orleans members who were displaced, but apparently it is not really aimed at professional communicators.

And I don't think it's an IABC project, other than someone at IABC typed a few words at the top of this blog. But maybe I'm wrong and an IABC headquarters staffer was involvd.

Can anyone tell us?

I have one to two positions available for hurricane victims in Northern Virginia (near Washington DC). These would be positions in an orthodontic office, and may be able to provide housing for one or two. I may also know of another position for a nanny that would include housing. You may call my cell phone 703-973-2130.

In addition to the normal jobs advertised at the IABC job site, there's an ad for a low-thirties "working chef" job in the kitchen of The Village Grill in Abbeville, South Carolina.

I have no idea if this is a free job posting in relation to the hurricane.

If, like me, you don't know where Abbeville is, it's a 26,000 person municipality near the South Carolina and Georgia border, about half way between Athen and Columbia.
